The lanyard has a special clip which must be engaged in the button/switch to allow the boat to start or continue operating from a “run” position. It is important to note that the lanyard is attached to the helmsman. If they are thrown out of the boat, the kill-switches do not allow for the “run” position and hence the boat cannot be operated. *N*

Description
Circuit is normally closed (complete)with lanyard clip in place on switch. When lanyard is pulled and clip is removed from switch, circuit is open (not complete), resulting in interruption of current to ignition and shutting off engine.
